The Wholistic JuJu
I’m Convinced That Its Okay! Its Okay To Stay At Home New Year’s Eve!
Without knowing everyone, I know you have lots to be thankful for this year (because if you are able to read this you are alive), but have you taken the time to reflect what those things are?
Ok I will be honest, this will be the first time since I can remember that I am staying in the house for New Years. The first thought was why am I not in the town, enjoying great company, cooking and having over friends, buying some extremely expensive dress and shoes to attend a party in..but that is only a regular habitual practice not what is most important for my spirit.
Reflection gives the mind time to re-sort all that has been stored in different files in the brain, allowing you to move forward and to either learn from what has happened to you previously or to do things over again cause you never learned through it the first time.
What you have done this year may not work for you next year, reflecting on all things accomplished will help you excel. The year goes by so fast that you may not recognize all that you have been through, which actually is what prepares you for 2012.
Why across the nation, new years eve is the only night of the year that restaurants, clubs, liquor stores, transportation services, gas stations, and yes even churches make the most money? The most common thing to do this time of the year is have plans to be in church, be with your lover, or at party but why not with yourself. The most recent previous holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, Kwanzaa, or Hanukkah) gave everyone time to reflect and be with their families, reconnecting, and giving thanks now it is time for SELF.
There are many ways one may reflect it just depends on you: writing, meditation, anything that allows you to recollect all the year had to offer. I always use myself or others to learn and test from; in that case what shall I do to reflect? Now previously I have written a full detailed and accomplish-able list of my goals in 2012 by looking at the ones I wrote last year; what I have learned I have spoken to myself about already. The last 15 minutes of the year will be used in deep breathing to center myself spiritually. Sitting in front of a mirror and looking directly in my own eyes taking deep breaths by the minute (thanks to a mentor for that idea). Next, the plan is to close my eyes (without falling asleep) and speaking aloud: “I accomplished ___________ in 2011, I did not accomplish _________ in 2011, I am thankful for this reflection and blessed for both lessons.” I will name things until the clock strikes 12:00am and I open my eyes. Keep in mind this is just what I personally did.
I am not suggesting that you cancel your plans but that you take time BEFORE your plans for YOU. The power of reflection is the same as the power of meditation, these are the ways that your flesh is eliminated and you are speaking and connecting with your real self. Remember that the flesh is only temporary but it is a reflection of who you are and what you think, you must be able to recognize this to move into the new year.
